What Does an Exhaust Flex Pipe Do?
A flex section allows some movement between the engine and the rest of the exhaust. Heat, vibration and corrosion can wear it out over time.
Signs of a Failed Flex Pipe
- A loud exhaust sound, especially when accelerating.
- A visible tear or frayed flexible section.
- An exhaust leak near the front of the vehicle.
- Rust or damage around the pipe connections.
Replacing the Damaged Section
When the surrounding pipe is sound and access allows, it may be possible to remove the failed section and weld in a suitable replacement. If nearby piping is badly corroded, additional repair may be necessary.
